Varsity
At the Varsity level our goal is to compete at the highest level and to win. That means putting our best players on the floor and challenging ourselves against the best teams we can find. Playing time will be earned through skill, effort, attitude, consistency, basketball IQ, and the ability to make the people around you better.
Every player will have a role. Some will start. Some will come off the bench. Some may see their most minutes as practice players. Those roles most likely will ebb and flow throughout the season.
Junior Varsity
The goal of JV is to develop players who are ready to contribute at the varsity level—next year or even during the current season. We want to win JV games, but we also want our JV players to develop the habits, confidence, toughness, decision-making, and basketball IQ needed to become varsity players.
JV is not a lesser team. It is an important part of developing our program and investing in the growth of each other. Being on Varsity/JV means accepting and working to excel in your role for the good of the team, while continuing to work to grow beyond it. Roles are not permanent. How you practice, compete, respond, and help your teammates can change your role throughout the season.Movement between the varsity and junior varsity may occur at any time throughout the season.
- Players in grades 7–12 will have an opportunity to earn a spot on the Varsity/JV team.
- The practice roster will have a maximum of 20 players.
- A maximum of 18 players can be placed on the section playoff roster.
- There will be three tryout sessions: November 16, 17, and 18.
- If more than 20 players are competing for roster spots, some players may not make the team.
- All players will be notified at the end of tryouts about team formation and cuts and will have the opportunity to discuss it with the coaching staff.
B-Squad
Whether we have a B-Squad team will depend on having enough players to field full Varsity, JV, and 9th Grade teams.
The purpose of B-Squad is to develop players working toward becoming JV and varsity-level players. For some, that may happen next year. For others, it may take more time. Wherever you are in your development, our job is to help you keep moving forward. We want to win B-Squad games while developing the skills, confidence, toughness, and basketball IQ needed for the next level.
The B-Squad roster will have a maximum of 12 players. If more than 12 players try out, coaches will determine the final roster.
All players will be notified at the end of tryouts about team formation, and will have the opportunity to discuss it with the coaching staff.
9th Grade
The 9th Grade team is about building the foundation for what comes next. Our goal is to help players become ready to contribute at the JV and varsity levels over the next two or three years. We want to compete and win at the 9th Grade level, while also giving players the opportunity to develop the skills, confidence, experience, and basketball IQ needed to continue moving up through our program.
We will have one 9th Grade team with a maximum of 12 players.
All players will be notified at the end of tryouts about team formation, and will have the opportunity to discuss it with the coaching staff.
